\u00a0Household Hazardous Waste Days<\/strong><\/h3>\n

Leftover household products that contain corrosive, toxic, ignitable, or reactive ingredients are considered to be household hazardous waste (HHW). Products, such as paints, cleaners, oils, batteries, and pesticides, \u00a0that contain potentially hazardous ingredients require special care when you dispose of them.<\/p>\n

Improper disposal of HHW can include pouring them down the drain, on the ground, into storm sewers, or in some cases putting them out with the trash. The dangers of such disposal methods might not be immediately obvious, but improper disposal of these wastes can pollute the environment and pose a threat to human health.<\/p>\n

The Mountain Alliance in accordance with the SWIP will hold Special Collection Days. Visit https:\/\/mtalliance.org\/hazardous-waste\/location-and-date-listing\/ for a list of upcoming HHW events.<\/p>\n

These events are for the residents<\/u> of: Randolph, Brookfield, Braintree, Roxbury and Northfield ONLY!<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n

Materials Accepted at the Events<\/u>:\u00a0<\/strong>Acids, Adhesives, Aerosols, Antifreeze, Brake Fluid, Cements, Charcoal Lighters, Chlorine, Cleaning Fluid, Degreasers, Disinfectants, Drain Cleaners, Dry Gas, Epoxies, Dyes, Fiberglass Resins, Flea Powders, Furniture Strippers, Hair Removers, Herbicides, Insect Repellents, Lacquers, Lubricants, Mothballs or Flakes, Nail Polish Removers, Oven Cleaners, Oil Based Paints, Paint Removers, Paint Thinners, Permanent Solutions, Pesticides, Photo chemicals, Rat Poisons, Rug and\u00a0Upholstery Cleaners, Rust Solvents, Wood Preservatives, Spot Removers, Toilet Bowl Cleaners, Tub and Tile Cleaners, Turpentine, Varnish, Weed Killers, Wood Polishes, Wood Stains, Fluorescent Light tubes Mercury-containing products.<\/p>\n

<\/u>Materials NOT Accepted at the Event<\/u>:\u00a0<\/strong>Asbestos, Automotive and Marine Batteries, Tires, Used Oil,\u00a0 Explosives or Shock-Sensitive Materials, Ammunition, Radio-Active Wastes, Pathological Wastes,\u00a0Infectious Waste, Medicines, Dioxins, Compressed Gas Cylinders, \u00a0Electronic equipment, TV\u2019s, Computers.<\/p>\n

If you are a Conditionally Exempt Generator (CEG) you will need to register prior to the event. To register, \u00a0please call Kristen Mahoney at Clean Harbors at 617-293-0608. Arrangements for disposal and payment must be made at least 7 days in advance.<\/strong><\/p>\n

Green Up Day<\/strong><\/h3>\n

Green Up Day is May 6, 2026<\/span><\/strong>! <\/span>Go to greenupvermont.org<\/a> to find out more as well as how to participate in your community!<\/p>\n

Vermont was the first state to designate a day to clean up the entire state. Started in 1970 by Gov. Deane C. Davis, Green Up Day 1971 was also officially recorded in the Congressional Record, thanks to US Senator George Aiken.<\/p>\n

That first year, the results were far beyond expectations. Four thousand truck loads were reported hauled by the Highway Department comprising over 20,000 cubic yards of trash removed from the Interstate and other state roads, and another 20,000 cubic yards, or more, were removed from town roads. Ninety-five percent (95%) of the 2,400 miles comprising the Interstate and other state roads were cleared and an estimated 75% of the 8,300 miles of town roads.<\/p>\n

50 years later<\/strong>, Green Up Day continues to thrive! Its efforts now reach out to promote the Green Up ethic and spirit year round through its slogan, \u201cLive the Green Up Way Every Day!\u201d<\/p>\n
