Reducing contamination is an important part in keeping recycling sustainable.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The Universal Recycling Law (Act 148) mandates the disposal of certain recyclables \u00a0from the landfill. Mandated recyclables, (referred to as\u00a0&#8220;blue bin&#8221; recyclables) include:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Aluminum and steel cans, aluminum foil and pie pans<\/li>\n<li>Glass bottles and jars<\/li>\n<li>Plastic bottles and jugs (PET and HDPE)<\/li>\n<li>Corrugated cardboard<\/li>\n<li>White and mixed paper, newspaper, magazines, catalogues, paper mail, envelopes, box board, and paper bags.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Each time you recycle your bottles, cans, paper, and plastics, you are helping to preserve natural resources, reduce greenhouse gas emissions, and decrease energy use. While our individual efforts might not seem like much, our actions together have a considerable impact on our environment and economy.<\/p>\n<p>The following resources will provide more information on the State of VT\u2019s\u00a0Universal Recycling Law (Act 148). Important updates were made to the law during the 2018 Legislative session.
